BSSL Wristbands @ Online Store

September 26, 2007 by Jeremy · Leave a Comment

“Oh! How cute! You’re a real cause now!”

That was the exclamation of one Texas girl as we unveiled our wristbands for the first time at Baylor University.

Apparently we are a real cause if we have wristbands. Therefore, we now have wristbands for sale on the online store.

“Why are you guys so gimmicky,” you might ask.

We’re not gimmicky. We know that not everyone can afford a $100 pair of shoes. But most of us can forgo a meal and buy a wristband. All of the profit - just like everything else at BSSL - goes to heart surgeries. And it let’s you wear the message of dying Iraqi children and your effort to help them with you.

We just thought we’d let you know.

Meet Dyarko

September 18, 2007 by Jeremy · Leave a Comment

img_5968-medium.jpgWe wanted you to meet Dyarko. Dyarko is two and a half years old from Chamchamal, Iraq. His family’s extremely poor and they borrowed all of the money they needed just to get him to the heart screening.

It’s an awesome reality as BSSL to just give someone money and tell him that he doesn’t have to pay us back, that he’s not in debt to us. They appreciated this help so much.

So put your klash on - or go buy some - and strut around your neighborhood or workplace telling everyone, “My shoes save lives!”

Help us keep the momentum going. Unfortunately, we have a long list of people who need more than Dyarko does.

For your feet and the future of Iraq,

Cody and Jeremy

The Official Doctor’s Report:

That’s to certify that the above mentioned lovely baby has recurrent attacks of upper respiratory tract infection in the last few months, on examination of precordium there’s harsh pansystolic murmur (Grade V), all over precordium, maximal intensity over apical area with radiation to the axilla. On July 10th 2007 his Echocardiography shows Hypoplastic RV, with enlarged left side, functionally single ventricle and abnormally related great arteries, with imparied global systolic function and diminished ejection fraction. This lovely bably needs surgical correction of this congential defect in a highly qualified center outside the country. Oh behalf of the patient’s family I wrote this report. [sic]

Life-Saving Kurdish Shoes Now Available from the Relevant Media Group Online

September 17, 2007 by Jeremy · Leave a Comment

header1.gifThere are few groups of people in the world whose work consistently wows us like that of the Relevant Media Group. We’ve been ardent readers of their online magazine for years. Our Accounting Department - defying all stereotypes about accountants - listened to the Relevant Podcast religiously until we moved to Iraq and became largely cut off from things like regular electricity and internet. I’ve enjoyed their print magazine a few times when I’ve gotten my hands on it. And a few books from their book publishing arm - such as Flashbang, Pocket Guide to the Apocalypse, and The Gutter - have been extremely enjoyable and beneficial reads.

All this to say, we were thrilled when we signed on the dotted line with the Relevant Store as a partner in our effort to save lives in Iraq by selling our one-of-a-kind fashionable shoes.

Head on over to their site to see the cool layout and say thanks. Leave a review while you’re there to let others know what you think about BSSl and klash. While your there, buy a book or download the podcast to learn more about the amazing Relevant Media Group.

Thanks, Matt Addington. You’re saving lives!

BSSL Gives Away First Funds

September 8, 2007 by Jeremy · Leave a Comment

A few days ago Buy Shoes. Save Lives. made good on our promise to fund heart surgeries for children for the first time.

We are not yet in a position to fully fund a surgery, but this week marked a significant milestone as we took the profits we have from the sales of klash and contributed to the visa and travel expenses of one of our neighborhood children who has been approved to travel abroad immediately for heart surgery.

We are so grateful for all that you are doing to make this a reality.

The momentum is just getting started. Let all your friends know that it’s actually happening. It’s not just an idea. We’re actually making money, and we’re actively giving it all away.

Now get to blogging…and call your local newspaper. (Seriously).

Sincerely,

Those Who Give Away Your Money

T-Shirt Added to Store

September 1, 2007 by Jeremy · Leave a Comment

bssl tshirtYou now have the chance to wear the amazing skill of designer Carissa Phillips on your back. Most people get art and hang it on a wall. But we believe that certain art should be worn; particularly art like that of Carissa Phillips.

So head over to the store and check out the shirt.

A few people this weekend grabbed the brand new shirt for free due to an error in our IT Department.

As with everything at BSSL, profits go to save lives. And, you save us from needing a marketing budget when you were the message wherever you go! Everybody wins…

So grab a shirt. And for all those people you’ve already told about Buy Shoes. Save Lives. who said, “Cool idea, but I don’t have $100.” Let them know that saving lives just became a whole lot easier.
