Banquet & Carnival in Iraq Celebrates Hope & A Future for Twenty of Our PLC Alumni Kids
August 20, 2009 by Jeremy · 24 Comments

Eight year old Ahmad was on the brink of death when we met him. Now he’s rambunctious and carries his little sister all around the place!

Dear Preemptive Lovers,
In the midst of our most recent series of life-saving surgeries being conducted in Istanbul, Turkey for Iraqi kids we wanted to pause on the drama and reflect for a moment on what you’ve helped us do in the past year together. To date you’ve helped us give 44 children the surgeries they so seriously needed and we’ve raised/given away over $250,000.
In celebration of this we hosted our second annual PLC Alumni Kids Banquet on July 17, 2009 in Iraq for all of the children we’ve served between August 2008 and June 2009. We had over twenty families in attendance, a small team of volunteers from a church in Texas that helped fund the banquet, and 8 summer interns from all over the U.S. We also had special guests from the local community, including renowned artists, political players, and medical professionals.
But the stars were, of course, the children themselves. What a joy it was to see little boys with brand new soccer balls – a gift that would have previously been something of a cruel joke for most of these boys. The girls came decked out in the party attire and the children were showered with thousands of dollars in gifts from supporters in the States.
It’s been a great year (we just missed announcing our second organizational birthday amidst the flurry of activity) and it’s hard to believe that we’re able to live out this dream. And we wouldn’t be able to without you… So here’s to you and the kids you’ve helped. It’s a joy to be a facilitator of your love and kindness in the world.
For Hope & Future,
Jeremy Courtney
Executive Director

The Smile of a Life-Changed: Roman at Home with Dad
June 15, 2009 by Ruth · 461 Comments

When some of PLC’s summer interns visited Roman he was riding around on his little bicycle and walking in and out of the room to see what was going on – just a little over two weeks after his life-saving heart surgery. His family was very hospitable!
Except for a slightly decreased appetite Roman has been recovering extremely well. His life has truly been changed for the better.
| Ruth Simpson was a Family Advocate for the Preemptive Love Coalition in Iraq (2008-2010) and a certified physio-therapist. Ruth hails from Ireland, though she's slowly losing her amazing accent amongst all the Americans. When not sharing her life with PLC's kids in Iraq, she served other constituent groups with her rehabilitative skills and compassion. |
Roman is Doing Amazing & Out of ICU with his Mother
May 28, 2009 by Jeremy · Leave a Comment

This is a picture of Roman after surgery. This little two year old was rushed into our group at the last minute due to what the Iraqi doctors understood to be the urgency of his condition.
Just these few days later and he has been released from ICU and is playing with cars in his room, watching TV, eating soup, and doing wonderfully!

Little Roman is Out of Surgery & in ICU!
May 27, 2009 by Jeremy · 386 Comments

Roman is out of surgery and in ICU recovering just fine. His mother has been in to see him a number of time and is clearly very comforted and excited by how well he is doing.
For those of us who are non-medical professionals, it was certainly sad to see him crying and squirming amidst all the tubes and wires… but we trust he is well under the care of the ASM staff.

Meet Roman
May 25, 2009 by Jeremy · 900 Comments
Roman is a 2 and half year old boy who is currently at our partner hospital, Anadolu Sağlık Merkezi (ASM) in Turkey waiting for his life-saving heart surgery (scheduled for Tuesday morning).
Roman is the youngest of 3 boys. His 2 older brothers clearly love him very much. Rahand, one of the brothers, told me how much he was going to miss Roman while for was gone. Roman is such a sweet kid, he’s very shy when you first meet him but he’s gradually warming up to us now and I he gives us a few cute smiles now when we see him!
Roman’s favorite thing to do is to play outside on his tricycle. Hopefully after his surgery he will have even more energy to do the things he loves most.
Check back (or subscribe by RSS) for more updates after his surgery tomorrow.
