We’re Launching The #1 Surgical Training Program In All Of Iraq!
July 26, 2012 by Cody · Leave a Comment

It seems fitting that all of this starts with a little boy named Haydar.
Haydar means “lion” in Arabic and when the local doctors in Nasiriyah, Iraq sent us a list of 500 children that they wanted to save during the Remedy Fellowship, Haydar was sitting at the top of the list.
And so the #1 surgical training program in all of Iraq—Remedy Fellowship—is set to begin in just a few hours with a lifesaving operation for Haydar!
Haydar will be followed by hundreds more in the coming months as the Remedy Fellowship provides 47 weeks of lifesaving surgery and training to doctors and nurses from all over Iraq.
But before we begin by saving Haydar, I want to thank you, because I know that all of this began with you.
It began with us telling you how we have the incredible opportunity to partner with Iraq and save hundreds of lives while giving the Nasiriyah Heart Center their best chance at becoming a sustainable and enduring local solution for children all over Iraq who have been born with heart defects.
Then you joined us. You donated your hard-earned money and you used your voice to ensure that the people of Iraq were given this opportunity.
And it worked—you’ve given us everything we need to launch the Fellowship today!
It’s made all the difference for Haydar.
Thank you!

At Long Last, Haydar is Finally Getting His Surgery!
May 29, 2011 by Alex · Comments Off

When I met Haydar he was kicking a soccer ball around the hospital hallway. We played there in the hallway for quite some time, kicking and throwing the ball back and forth between the three of us. I made my arms like a hoop in front of me and Haydar would shoot the ball through them—he’s a pretty good shot for a 6 year old!
Because there are so many children here in need of heart surgery, and because cuteness and playfulness are not criteria we get to use in determining the order for surgeries (unfortunately), Haydar ended up being further down on the surgery list.
But thankfully, after patiently waiting in the hospital and always trying to show us how brave and prepared he was, Haydar is finally getting his surgery! We couldn’t think of a better way to wind down as we near the end of our trip—thank you for helping us bring the Remedy to Haydar!

So from one village to another, Fatima and her grandmother can’t even put in words how grateful they are for people out there who care.
People who care enough to give. People who care enough to come.
On behalf of all of us at Preemptive Love, thanks for saving Fatima today.
Stay tuned…

Ritha’s Heart Only Gets Stronger The Second Day
December 8, 2010 by Cody · Comments Off

On the second day, little Ritha continues to rest as Haydar came next to him in the ICU after another successful heart operation. The local male nurses in the ICU gave in to Ritha and let him play with a giraffe stuffed animal. At first they told me he should be playing with something more “manly”, like a dog!
Who wants to send us over some manly toys? (They’re for the kids. We promise.)
Thanks to those manly ICU nurses, Ahmed’s on schedule to be out of the ICU in less in than 24 hours!
Check back on Ahmed!
