Remedy Is On Its Way!
January 10, 2012 by Cody · Comments Off

Today, after an hour delay (which isn’t bad at all for Iraq) I boarded the plane for the south to launch Remedy Mission VIII!
I stepped off the plane and as my passport was getting stamped with a visa, a man approached me, curious that I was the only American on the plane, and asked, “What are you doing here?”
“I’m here to help save lives!”
His eyes lit up as I told him about the medical training team that was on its way to Iraq to save 20 little lives. They’re still boarding planes around the world, but in just 24 more hours we can start doing what we came here to do: train doctors and save lives.
Thanks for sticking with us! More to come…

A hospital in Iraq is back up on its feet after years of getting knocked down and now it’s better and bigger than ever!
Rebuilt after many years of violence in Iraq, the Ibn al-Bitar Hospital for Cardiac Surgery in Baghdad is beginning a new program to teach its doctors how to better operate on children who need heart surgery.
“”Until now, we have not been able to conduct heart surgery on infants,’ said Doctor Hussein Ali al-Hilli, director of the Ibn Bitar Hospital for Cardiac Surgery in Baghdad.
‘We receive 80 children a day with various heart-related birth defects that we cannot treat. We need three years to learn because such procedures are complicated,’ he added.”

The summer interns visited a children’s hospital in the area to talk with Dr. Aso, who will be part of the Remedy mission this summer. Dr. Aso is a hugely important pediatric cardiologist for all the children of Iraq!
