The Smile of a Life-Changed: Roman at Home with Dad
June 15, 2009 by Ruth · 472 Comments

When some of PLC’s summer interns visited Roman he was riding around on his little bicycle and walking in and out of the room to see what was going on – just a little over two weeks after his life-saving heart surgery. His family was very hospitable!
Except for a slightly decreased appetite Roman has been recovering extremely well. His life has truly been changed for the better.
Roman is Doing Amazing & Out of ICU with his Mother

This is a picture of Roman after surgery. This little two year old was rushed into our group at the last minute due to what the Iraqi doctors understood to be the urgency of his condition.
Just these few days later and he has been released from ICU and is playing with cars in his room, watching TV, eating soup, and doing wonderfully!

Little Roman is Out of Surgery & in ICU!

Roman is out of surgery and in ICU recovering just fine. His mother has been in to see him a number of time and is clearly very comforted and excited by how well he is doing.
For those of us who are non-medical professionals, it was certainly sad to see him crying and squirming amidst all the tubes and wires… but we trust he is well under the care of the ASM staff.

Meet Roman

Roman is a 2 and half year old boy who is currently at our partner hospital, Anadolu Sağlık Merkezi (ASM) in Turkey waiting for his life-saving heart surgery (scheduled for Tuesday morning).
Roman is the youngest of 3 boys. His 2 older brothers clearly love him very much. Rahand, one of the brothers, told me how much he was going to miss Roman while for was gone. Roman is such a sweet kid, he’s very shy when you first meet him but he’s gradually warming up to us now and I he gives us a few cute smiles now when we see him!
Roman’s favorite thing to do is to play outside on his tricycle. Hopefully after his surgery he will have even more energy to do the things he loves most.
Check back (or subscribe by RSS) for more updates after his surgery tomorrow.
