Earlier this week, a mysterious flag was discovered hanging from Citizen’s Tower in downtown Lubbock, Texas. The black banner had Arabic writing scrawled across it in white—superimposed, curiously, on top of a red heart.
According to local media reports, the mayor requested that “the flag be removed immediately… and that [the police chief] notify the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI, and our Lubbock County Sheriff’s Department.”
“I fully understand that we must gather more facts before we make a knee jerk reaction but I am concerned on several levels,” Mayor Glen Robertson’s memo continued.
A spokesperson for the Lubbock Police, Ray Mendoza, added: “We do not know what the purpose of it was, or what was meant by it, but our officers are still continuing to investigate it.”
When the leader of a local mosque was asked to translate the sign, he revealed its surprising message:
“Love to all.”
