Saja’s Heart Is Failing, But Not Her Hope

Meet Saja.

She is a beautiful, 11-year-old girl with a failing heart. She’s in 6th grade this year, and loving every moment of it—except for the moments where her heart reminds her that it can’t keep up with all the dreams and aspirations of an 11-year-old.

I met Saja this morning and she was grinning from ear to ear. I don’t see that often!

Most of the children heading into the operating room are, as I would be, more nervous than giddy. But Saja is full of whimsy and playfulness. Right now, she is filling the OR with giggles and smiles all around and we love her for it!

I don’t know where all of this hope is coming from, but I think it might have to do something with her 11-year wait coming to an end, and being just moments away from what could be a lifesaving heart surgery.

All of those dreams and aspirations are right around the corner for Saja. And that’s enough to put whimsy in anyone.

Stay tuned—her operation is underway.
