She did it!
Last week, we introduced you to Summer Downs, who started her own fundraising campaign to help women who’ve been kidnapped and exploited by ISIS. In solidarity with those who’ve lost so much, Summer promised to shave her head at the end of her campaign.
In the name of people who have been forced to give up everything, I am choosing to sacrifice something very precious to me as a woman: my hair. It may be small compared to their loss, but I believe that I must risk something in order to love.
Well, that day finally came. Summer flew past her original goal, raising nearly $5,900. That money will help provide emergency relief for those victimized by ISIS. It will help them begin the long journey of rebuilding their lives.
Most of all, it’s another sign that “love is stronger than terror,” as Summer said at the start of her campaign.
Last Friday, Summer made good on her promise, shaving her head as friends and supporters cheered her on. Here’s the proof:
