Mexico
At the southern border of Mexico, thousands of moms, dads, and kids, Haitians, Venezuelans, Hondurans, wait for permission to travel north. Some wait for two years.
That’s a long time of not being able to work.
A long time of looking at a bare kitchen table, wondering how you’ll feed your kids.
Internally displaced Mexicans also go hungry. Some live in crowded shelters, the cost of eggs, milk, or cooking oil so far out of economic reach. More displaced families live on the streets, without even a table to gather around.
Venezuela
In Venezuela, the situation is dire. 94.5% of men, women, and children live in poverty. Almost 100% of elderly Venezuelans, many of who survive on a government pension worth about $3 per month, receive no humanitarian aid. Hyperinflation makes today’s money worth less tomorrow.
Too many families sit at bare kitchen tables.
And with constant hunger comes poor health and fractured families as the strongest venture out in the hope of getting help for those left behind.
